The Mukks

For the benefit of anyone who has made it this far and is still confused: we are the Mukks. The captain is Gukki. Gukki plus Mukks equals Gukkimukk. The ship is named after us, or we are named after the ship. The captain is unclear which came first and shows no inclination to clarify.

We are a small crew. I have been with the captain longest. Others joined in waves over the decades: the packing Mukks, the logistics Mukks, Mukk-04 (who I recommend you do not ask about textiles unless you have the afternoon free), and — most recently — Mukk-17, known aboard as Brain.

A note on Brain. His official designation is Mukk-17, which is how I refer to him in formal records and when explainin' the situation to customers. In all other contexts he goes by Brain. He acquired this name during one of our early research expeditions to Earth's surface. The details are preserved in Research Tape 03, included later in this volume. I will not be explainin' it here. The tape speaks for itself.
